We have in our hands the power collectively to choose our future. Whatever that future will be bright or bleak we know that its starting point is NOW. The United Nations knows this all too well and has issued a CALL TO ACTION in a few strategic areas . This call is addressed not primarily to governments but to the PEOPLE OF THE WORLD. Says Kofi Annan, It is the people mobilized as you are, more than any government or scientific breakthrough, who can overcome the obstacles to a better world ...... the civil society movement continues to grow and make its mark. What would really make a difference is if, at the local level ....... a critical mass of support could be assembled. You can and must make that happen. If we do not, millions of people will die, prematurely and unnecessarily. That ......... should be a call to action. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ In his brief WELCOME ADDRESS to the 2004 DPI Conference, Millennium Development Goals:Civil Society takes Action,UN Secretary General Kofi Annan powerfully addressed the critical importance of THIS PRESENT MOMENT both in terms of the possibilities it offers and the consequences of a failure to act. | A Few Strategic Areas | The Chance of a Lifetime | The UN System | MIGRATION AND DEVELOPMENT | Vincentian Global Network | UN Calendar | Climate Change | Ban - Chamber of Commerce | Ban Ki-moon urges action | Safe water for all | Millennium Development Goals | | Return Home | About Us | What's New | Current Focus | Articles | Great Links | Email Form | |
