Vincentians Today

Several Vincentian Foundations have come to be known as "The Vincentian Family." These share a commitment to certain values:

1. a contemplative approach to life

2. an individual and corporate witness to
affective and effective love

3. a stance on the side of people who suffer
from poverty, injustice and exclusion

4. a resolve to understand the causes of poverty and violence and to work towards short term and long term solutions.

The dawn of an Era of Globalization calls for an urgent re-commitment to our common values. Despite remarkable progress for some in several areas, the old forms of poverty still remain: hunger, homelessness, ignorance, unemployment, low wages, sickness, war and oppression. Alongside of these, we now see AIDS, the weakening of family life, new forms of discrimination against women, the digital divide, environmental degradition and the culture of death. The new context calls forth new aspects of the charism of our founders.

Vincentian Social Values

Vincent encouraged his communities to seek first the
Reign of God and God's justice,
and to entrust all else to God's loving care.
