FROM: Joseph Foley, C.M., Chair, Working Group on Children and HIV/AIDS March 25, 2004 Re: Children and HIV/AIDS Survey Dear NGO Colleague: We are pleased to announce the formation of a new NGO Working Group on Children and HIV/AIDS, a sub-group of the NGO Committee on UNICEF. The Working Group has been established to help raise greater awareness of the issues that confront children living with, and affected by, HIV/AIDS. The NGO Committee on UNICEF is a worldwide network of 125 international NGOs working with children in more than 110 countries. The Working Group on Children and HIV/AIDS was established last year by the NGO Committee in response to the enormous amount of work being done in this area, but also in recognition of the need for more effective coordination of advocacy efforts on the issue, in order to address the shortfall in attention and funding for children’s issues caused by the pandemic. As an initial step—to map the work being done for children living with, and affected by, HIV/AIDS, and to identify areas where more could be done in terms of advocacy—we are conducting a survey of NGOs around the world. Please find your copy attached to this email. The results of the survey will be used to identify three key priorities to form the focus of the Working Group’s advocacy projects on behalf of children and HIV/AIDS. We hope you will take the time to participate in the study. If you know other individuals or organizations who might like to take part in the study, please feel free to forward the survey to them.. The more responses we receive, the better.
